PLAYER OUTPOSTS
Outposts in Broken Gate will be player-built locations that provide crafting, processing, and storage capabilities. Outposts will be able to be outfitted with different buildings, ranging from TARGE hangars to material processing facilities. These player-built outposts will also have the capability to harvest resources from the surrounding areas, when placing an outpost there will be a zone of influence surrounding it where the player can build extra buildings, such as oil pumps. Upgrading a certain building chain will increase this zone of influence. Players will also be able to fortify these positions against enemy assault, with walls and either automated or manned weaponry. Security gates, large gates for TARGEs to pass through, set with a PIN for added security. Cameras or other security measures that notify the players if their base is being interacted with/invaded.
Outposts will be completely destructible, by both NPCs and players as well. Players will be able to scalvage the wrecks of other player’s bases and steal their resources as well. This makes the outposts valuable targets for marauding players.
Just like the ‘heatmapping’ for the Aeternii, perhaps we could do something for NPC Marauders as well, the more resource being stored at a location might somehow make it more likely to invoke bandit raids. Players might be able to construct certain building chains to reduce the risk of attack as well. (Maybe could do this for Aeternii attacks as well)
How is land claimed?
Players will construct an outpost marker. This marker will allow the player to claim an area of land in Terranuo’s neutral zone. Markers will be crafted by players at fabricators. Marker range from CAT 1, the easiest and least capable marker to CAT 5 with ascending levels of effort and materials needed for each’s construction.
What kinds of areas can be claimed?
All land that is within the Neutral Zone of Terranuo and that has not been already claimed by another player can be claimed. This may include underground locations.
How do we define the area that is owned?
The area owned is defined by the Marker that the player has crafted. Markers range from CAT 1 through to CAT 5 and the area claimed is larger for each in ascending order. The owned area will be displayed as a grid over the claimed land and will be present only when the player wants it to be. (Perhaps when in a building mode etc.)
How does claimed land affect other players?
Other players will still be able to physically steal resources and such from a location owned by another player by mining/harvesting it, but they will not be able to build on owned ground. Players will be able to set the ‘privacy’ of their outposts, and this will also affect how it reacts to other players. For example, if a player sets their outpost to “Sturmkriegers Only” then the outpost might react aggressively to players outside of the faction, but allow Sturmkrieger players to pass, or even enter uninhibited. There will also include options, for friends/org only or simply hostile/passive to all.
How does building work?
Outposts will be divided into a grid; this grid will provide the placement for buildings. Once a player has decided on the particular project(building/object) they want to build they will place it on the grid, and it will provide a hologram like blueprint and the instructions on how to complete the project.
