REPUTATION SYSTEM

Reputation plays a pivotal role in Broken Gate and takes the place of levels and experience. So while every player is equal in terms of physical capabilities, their reputation is what determines their access to facilities, turf, and even unique faction weapons/TARGEs. Player Faction reputation will even affect who is hostile to the player and who is an ally. As the big three factions are all hostile towards each other, as a player gains positive reputation with one, they gain negative with the others. Ultimately altering where is safe for the player to operate and where becomes dangerous.

As a player gains reputation they gain access to unique missions, facilities and craftables.

There are several primary factions that the player will work for to earn reputation. Of course there are the three main Factions of Broken Gate but also smaller guilds and associations that will provide the players with unique benefits.

These include:

  • The Hawkshaw Association, a bounty hunting guild. (PVP)
  • The Artificer’s Guild, for fabricators and craftsmen.
  • The Hunter’s Call, for monster hunting. (PVE)
  • Archibald’s Exploratoria.
  • Scornie’s Scalvaging Service.
  • The Underbroker. – A mysterious individual strangely invested in your character’s continued existence.

Each association will provide the players with meaningful quests and goals in order to deepen their involvement with the world of Broken Gate. Hopefully creating a compelling gameplay cycle that keeps the players motivated and engaged.

Reputation grows slowly as players complete quests and passive quests. Reputation won’t change until the player turns in their progress at an approved guild location.

The Hawkshaw Association

A bounty hunting guild founded originally in the fortress cities of the Conglomeracy. During the early days of the second city there were not enough enforcers to deal with every crime that occurred. So the Hawkshaw association was formed as an outlet for hiring mercenaries to carry out the jobs of the state without actually hiring them.

The Hawkshaw Association operates out of a neutral zone, independent from the three major factions.

The Hawkshaw Association deals with Bounty Hunting and other kinds of mercenary work that includes the tracking, killing, or capturing of Human NPC or Player targets.

As players increase their reputation with Hawkshaw they will gain access to improved weapons mods, unique weapons and combat based components. As Hawkshaw’s is primarily concerned with Combat oriented gameplay their rewards reflect this.

The Artificer’s Guild

The Artificer’s Guild was originally formed in the early days of the second city, as almost all masters of fabrication and construction were lost to the war with the Aeternii. The few masters that remained would form the Guild of Artificers in order to train new fabricators and craftsmen. A practice that continues to this day. (Very basic, more lore required)

The Artificer’s Guild continues to operate in all factions as a neutral entity, as their craft is incredibly valuable, and their Guilds produce some of the finest craftsmen.

Crafting is core to the Broken Gate experience and as such the inclusion of the Artificer’s Guild was to ensure that player’s who took to the crafting experience would have further gameplay options and goals to work towards. The Artificer’s Guild will concern itself with all non-faction-affiliated fabrication and crafting.

The Artificer’s Guild are in possession of some of the most efficient work stations and fabricators in existence, as such as you gain renown amongst their number you may gain access to these devices. They will also provide many unique, universal components and armour for TARGEs.

The Hunter’s Call

There have always existed giant and dangerous beasts on the world of Terranuo, and for as long as humanity can remember The Hunter’s Call has been there to send their fearless out to meet them. Harkening to the heroes of old, The Hunter’s Call dispatches players to face down the fearsome creatures that stalk the blasted lands.

The Hunter’s Call operates in neutral zones across Terranuo.

The Hunter’s Call will have players out in the wilderness of Terranuo tracking and killing beasts and Aeternii. This Guild is associated with all PVE questing and monster hunting. These creatures will provide valuable resources that will be used in the creation of all kinds of in game equipment.

As the Hunter’s Call deals with PVE missions, specifically targeting creatures and monsters, the Hunter’s call will provide benefits to hunting groups of smaller enemies or facing down large enemies. They will also provide places to process biological materials, as this follows a separate process than the standard crafting.

Archibald’s Exploratoria

Archibald’s Exploratoria is at the forefront of all exploration efforts across Terranuo. Their aim is to rediscover the ruins of the old world and to map the lands of Terranuo and would gladly accept any who share in their curiosity and wanderlust.

Archibald’s Exploratoria operates within the factions of Terranuo but remains neutral.

Explorer’s from the Guild would be expected to traverse the wilds of Terranuo and return with location information on any and all points of interest they might have stumbled across.

The Exploratoria will reward players with items and blueprints that enhance their ability to explore.

Scornie’s Scalvaging

Scornie’s Scalvaging is the most prolific scalvaging service amongst the Terranuan factions, Scornie himself coined the term “Scalvage” which was a combination of the words Scavenge and Salvage, both of which Scornie claimed to offer as a package deal. Scornie has since passed on but not before his particular Scalvaging service, and terminology, expanded across Terranuo.

Scornie’s Scalvaging operates all across Terranuo, both within faction strongholds and in the frontier. As Scornie’s Scalvaging operates in neutral zones, a personal security force is employed by the company as well.

Scalvaging is the act of tearing down ruined vehicles and TARGEs and turning them into processable materials. Player’s might possess handheld cutting tools or choose to outfit their TARGEs with a salvaging loadout. As scalvaging requires a lot of cargo, bringing along transportation vehicles, or similarly outfitted TARGEs is a must.

Scornie’s will reward players with increased scalvaging capabilities through enhance components, upgrades, and equipment.

The Underbroker

A mysterious individual, with ties to many of Terranuo’s more unsavoury characters and organisations. Stranger still, he seems to be distinctly invested in your continued survival.

We talked about a game location known as the “Under-road” or “Underway” or something, it would be a neutral zone for Trading and would function like a fortress (Safe zone). It would be the home of the Underbroker and be a secret (almost) 5th faction (or maybe the Trading Guild).The Underway/Under-road would allow players to safely move stock in smaller quantities and allow them to trade with other players of opposing factions.
