GAME MECHANICS
Endless Endeavours
Broken Gate will feature a wide array of gameplay options, from pacifistic disciplines like trading and exploration, to more combat centric roles such as monster hunting or mercenary work. Each of these disciplines will interact with one another and work toward creating a compelling gameplay cycle that keeps the players motivated and engaged
Exploration
Players taking to the world of Terranuo can expect to be greeted by all manner of amazing vista and intriguing places of interest. One goal of Broken Gate is to create a truly breathtaking world for the players to immerse themselves in. As you make your way across the lands of Terranuo you might find yourself in an amazing cavern full of rare resource, or perhaps in the den of a great beast. Each of these locations will hold value, both to the NPCs of Broken Gate but also to the players. We hope to have explorers bartering the locations of these rare resource areas or dens to the players who hope to utilise them.
Players who focus on exploration might outfit their TARGEs with extra fuel capacity, scanning equipment or radar capabilities to help them go further in the field, identify rare resources, and locate points of interest. This might leave them with less offensive or defensive capabilities but as an explorer, combat comes secondary.
Some sort of scanning ability or equipment will be used to determine the various qualities of things like Ore or other natural resources. This will show type of resource, density, purity etc. This will be uploaded to the player’s map or similar device. When bartering with another player for the information, the player will be able to choose to display any of the various pieces of information. If the player decides to sell the information, there will be an option to also retain the information or to have it then removed from the selling player’s device. This will have to be agreed upon by both parties before the deal can be confirmed.
Players will also be able to sell their information to the various guilds and associations that exist to earn reputation, in this case, locations of interest or resource locations may be sold to Archibald’s Exploratoria. The player may barter with the guild over the worth of the information; however they will always receive reputation in return.
Crafting
Broken Gate is a land of scavengers and survivalists making the most of whatever they can get their hands on. Whether these resources come scavenged from the wrecks of unfortunate fellow players or dug up from deep below Terranuo’s surface. The Crafting system of Broken Gate is very important and will be something that almost every player will find themselves participating in. While the trading economy will allow players to get their hands on the components they need, the act of assembling their TARGE pieces will fall directly onto the players themselves.
Crafting is done predominantly with Fabricators(person), fabricators(machine) and material processors. Players will be able to craft almost everything they could ever need. Everything from weapons, weapon mods, munitions, explosives, consumables, armour, and much more.
When crafting the process can be broken down into a few separate parts, each process will be explained below.
- Secure raw resources
- Process raw resources into materials, i.e. Iron bars, alloys, logs etc
- Fabricate materials into components, i.e. Weapon parts, electronics, wiring etc
- Assemble components into items, i.e. Guns, armour, munitions etc
Trading
As craftsmen are always in demand in the deserts of Terranuo so too are the merchants that ply their trade across the continent. While crafters and gatherers ensure that there is an adequate amount of resource available to the player base, the traders make sure the resource makes its way into areas that might otherwise be lacking in them.
Moving physicalised stock will be a risky endeavour to be sure, but for the merchant, high risk often means high reward. Basically you have Speciality Resources spread all over the map, it is beneficial for gatherers to bring their resources to the nearest hub to sell, Traders then take this resource and move it to far off locations to profit, the longer the journey the higher the value.
